Last night I was just telling my friend Joe, who joined tumblr yesterday, how genius tumblarity is. You want to raise it. Why? Just cause you do. It’s the insta-competitive crack feedback loop rpgs like WoW are based on.
But in this game, instead of getting points for killing mythical beasts you get points for contributing to the online world. Especially if it’s interesting. It encourages you to be productive. It’s gaming for a positive purpose. Genius.
I *just* joined tumblr and definitely was trying to post more, and interesting things at that. Not only because I’ve been telling myself I want to - but to make that little tumblarity counter go up. I wanted to be tumbopular!
Bad move tumblr. You removed one of the things that made you different. I would be very interested to see if this results in less activity (posting, liking) - I certainly think it will.
